For every dollar that a man earns, a women earns 81 cents. This means that for an equal amount of work, a women makes significantly less money. This is the gist of the gender pay gap. Women are paid less money than men for a variety of reasons, many of which stem from sexism and the patriarchy in the United States. On top of this, the pay gap becomes even worse as race and other minority aspects of identity are included in the data.
